ClimaFii Alliance is a new program with Shell Foundation, Accion, BFA Global (SSA) and Upaya Social Ventures (India). What is unique about this 5-year global program is that it is designed as a multi-pronged approach to increase access to clean energy and affordable finance. Through venture building and go-to-market strategies, ClimaFii makes clean energy technologies more accessible to microentrepreneurs. Through credit pilots with FSPs and investment readiness, they increase access to capital for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and deploy early-stage capital more efficiently.
In sub-Saharan Africa, ClimaFii will support 10 climate enterprises (startups and SMEs) to accelerate clean energy solutions specifically designed to benefit 20,000 microentrepreneurs, especially women, and their productivity to increase incomes in Year 1. This will be done through:
1) 85k in grant support and bespoke venture building focused on investment readiness and go-to-market partnerships
2) with Accion, partnering with FSPs on credit pilots for the enterprise and the microentrepreneurs
3) facilitating follow-on funding for the 10 enterprises
